Gold Surges Over 1% Following a Three-Week Decline in Market Prices

NEW YORK / RankWire.AI / – Gold experienced an increase of more than 1% on Thursday after bouncing back from its lowest point in over three weeks. The spot price of gold rose 1.1% to $4,434.70 per ounce by 04:25 GMT. Meanwhile, U.S. gold futures went up 1.5% to $4,480.10. Throughout the session, the dollar weakened, and U.S. Treasury yields declined from recent multi-year peaks. This rebound was sparked by significant swings in bullion prices during Wednesday’s trading activities.

Gold climbs over 1% after reversing three-week market drop
Precious metals recover as gold, silver, platinum and palladium post gains.

On early Wednesday, gold dipped to $4,304.01 per ounce, reflecting a 0.6% decrease at 00:17 GMT. This level was its lowest since August 7. December U.S. gold futures also saw a 1% fall to $4,350.80 during the initial decline. However, prices later reversed course, with spot gold reaching $4,376.41 by 17:57 GMT and December futures closing 0.4% higher at $4,414.60. The upward momentum persisted into Thursday trading.

The recent movement was influenced by market reactions to U.S. interest rate expectations and new economic data. Traders are currently assigning a 62% probability to a rate hike in September. The Federal Reserve is scheduled to hold its next policy meeting on September 15 and 16. Throughout the week, gold has shown sensitivity to fluctuations in the dollar and government bond yields. Thursday’s rally positioned bullion more than $130 above its intraday low from Wednesday.

Gold Bounces Back After Three Weeks of Decline

Market focus also shifted to the upcoming key U.S. labor market report. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will release the August Employment Situation report on Friday, September 4, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The report will include figures on nonfarm payrolls, the unemployment rate, and other employment indicators. This release comes after several economic data points that have driven significant movements in precious metals, currencies, and government bonds.

Other metals also recovered on Thursday following losses seen in the previous session. Spot silver increased by 1.2% to $66.08 an ounce. Platinum gained 1% to $1,777.79, while palladium rose 0.8% to $1,356.50. On Wednesday, silver had dipped to $63.60 during early trading, platinum fell to $1,722.23, and palladium decreased to $1,292.21 amid broader market weakness in precious metals.

    Precious Metals Rebound in Price

Gold’s price on Thursday was approximately 3% higher than the intraday low recorded a day earlier. U.S. gold futures also staged a notable recovery from Wednesday’s early levels, moving from $4,350.80 during the selloff to $4,480.10 on Thursday. These latest gains pushed gold back above $4,400 after its brief decline to the lowest point since early August. Similarly, silver, platinum, and palladium traded above their Wednesday lows.

Several important U.S. economic reports are still scheduled for September. Producer price data is set for release on September 10, followed by consumer price figures on September 11. The Federal Reserve’s two-day policy meeting begins on September 15 and ends the following day. After a volatile couple of days, gold opened Thursday with renewed strength, and the broader precious metals complex also rebounded, recouping some of the earlier week’s losses.
